Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

MindsBudget collects only what you provide directly:

• Account information — your email address and a hashed password. We never store your password in plain text.
• Uploaded files — bank statement files (CSV, Excel, or PDF) that you voluntarily upload for analysis. Statement files are processed immediately and not saved to our servers.
• Transaction data — the rows extracted from your uploaded files, stored in our database to power your dashboard and historical comparisons.
• Usage data — standard server access logs (IP address, browser type, request timestamps) retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.

We do not require any bank login or connection to your bank accounts. We do not run third-party advertising scripts or sell your data. We use privacy-safe product analytics (see Section 6 below).

2. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used exclusively to provide the MindsBudget service:

• Reading and categorising your transactions to calculate your financial health score.
• Storing analysis results so you can review past uploads in your dashboard.
• Authenticating your account across sessions.

We do not use your financial data to train machine learning models, build advertising profiles, or make automated decisions that affect you outside this application.

3. No Bank Login Required

MindsBudget never asks for your bank username, password, or direct access to your financial accounts. All analysis is performed on files you export yourself and upload voluntarily. You are always in control of what you share.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a managed database hosted on Render. Connections are encrypted. Passwords are stored using a secure, one-way hash — we cannot recover your password and neither can anyone else.

Access to your uploads and analysis results is scoped strictly to your account. No other user can access your data, and the service returns an error for any attempt to access another account's data.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal data or financial transaction data with any third party for commercial purposes. We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:

• Infrastructure providers — Render (hosting) processes data solely to operate the service under their own data processing terms.
• Legal compliance — if required by a valid legal order or to protect the safety of users.

6. Product Analytics

MindsBudget uses PostHog to understand how visitors use the product so we can improve features and performance. PostHog is a privacy-focused analytics platform.

What PostHog may receive:

• Page views and navigation events
• Feature interactions (e.g. which tools you use, which steps you complete)
• Binned, non-identifying usage metrics such as approximate savings ranges or transaction volume ranges — never exact dollar amounts from your bank statement
• Payment confirmation events (plan name and currency only — no payment amounts, card details, or Stripe session identifiers)

What PostHog does not receive:

• Your uploaded bank statement or any raw transaction data
• Your email address (unless you choose to identify yourself in the app)
• Account numbers, routing numbers, or any bank credentials
• Exact dollar amounts from your statement

You can decline analytics tracking using the cookie consent banner shown on your first visit. Your choice is stored in your browser and respected on all subsequent visits. To change your preference, clear your browser's local storage or contact us at support@mindsbudget.com.

7. Your Rights and Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing us at support@mindsbudget.com. We will process deletion requests within 14 business days.

You may also request a copy of all data we hold on you (data portability) by contacting the same address.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of MindsBudget after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
