How to Export Bank of America Transactions as a CSV File
Bank of America lets you download transaction history from checking, savings, and credit card accounts in several formats including CSV and Excel. The export is quick and works from the desktop website. Both CSV and Excel formats exported from Bank of America are accepted by MindsBudget.
How to export your Bank of America statement
Use a desktop or laptop browser and log in to your Bank of America account.
From the account overview, click on your checking, savings, or credit card account to open the transaction activity view.
Look for a "Download" link near the top of your transaction list. Bank of America typically labels it "Download Transactions" and places it near the date range and search filters. It may appear as a small link with a download icon.
Choose a date range. For a monthly review, select the last 30 days or a specific statement period. Bank of America allows custom date ranges for up to 18 months.
Bank of America offers CSV Format, Microsoft Excel Format, Quicken, and QuickBooks. Choose either CSV or Excel — both work with MindsBudget. The CSV format is the most universally compatible.
The file downloads to your default downloads folder. It typically has a name like stmt.csv or includes your account number and date range.
Open MindsBudget and upload the file. Your spending breakdown, recurring charge analysis, and financial health score appear in under 60 seconds.

Troubleshooting
Bank of America says my download is "not available" — what does that mean?
This sometimes happens when the date range is too wide or when there are no transactions in the selected period. Try narrowing the date range to 30 days and retry. It can also occur during scheduled maintenance windows.
I see QFX and OFX options — can I use those with MindsBudget?
No. MindsBudget accepts CSV and Excel (.xlsx) files only. Select "CSV Format" or "Microsoft Excel Format" when downloading from Bank of America.
My Bank of America CSV only shows the last 60 days — can I get more history?
Bank of America limits the download window depending on your account age and account type. For a monthly review, 30 days is all you need. For older history, you may need to download your monthly statements (PDF) separately.
What you get after uploading
Every transaction is categorized — Food, Housing, Transportation, Subscriptions, and more.
Every charge that repeats is identified and classified — Fixed Bills, Debt Payments, Subscriptions, and unknowns.
A score from 0–100 based on your spending rate, discipline, stability, and cash runway.
The original file is not stored. No bank credentials. No ongoing account connection.
Frequently asked questions
How do I download Bank of America transactions as a CSV?
Sign in at bankofamerica.com, click on the account you want, find the "Download Transactions" link near the top of the transaction list, select your date range and CSV format, then download.
Does Bank of America support Excel exports?
Yes. Bank of America offers both CSV and Microsoft Excel format exports from their transaction download feature. Both are accepted by MindsBudget.
Can I export Bank of America credit card transactions to CSV?
Yes. The transaction download feature works for Bank of America checking, savings, and credit card accounts.
What date range should I export for a monthly review?
For a standard monthly review, export the last 30 days — or the first to last day of the most recent full calendar month. MindsBudget calculates your financial health score and spending breakdown from whatever date range is in the file.
Does MindsBudget accept Excel files as well as CSV?
Yes. MindsBudget accepts both CSV (.csv) and Excel (.xlsx, .xls) files. Either format exported from your bank works.
Is it safe to upload a bank statement file?
Your exported bank statement contains transaction history — dates, amounts, and merchant names — but no account numbers or login credentials. MindsBudget processes the file immediately and does not store the original file. Only the structured transaction data is retained, and you can delete it at any time.
Does MindsBudget connect to my bank?
No. MindsBudget does not connect to your bank and does not ask for your bank credentials. You export the file yourself and upload it — no ongoing connection, no third-party access to your account.
What columns does MindsBudget need in the CSV?
MindsBudget automatically detects the column format used by major banks. Standard exports from Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Capital One, and Discover all work without any manual editing.
