How to Export Wells Fargo Transactions as a CSV File

Wells Fargo offers a "Download Account Activity" option for checking, savings, and credit card accounts. The export is available from the desktop website and provides CSV, Microsoft Money, Quicken, and QuickBooks formats. For MindsBudget, choose CSV or Microsoft Money (Excel-compatible).

📱The download/export feature is available on the Wells Fargo desktop site. The Wells Fargo mobile app does not include a CSV export option.

How to export your Wells Fargo statement

1
Sign in at wellsfargo.com

Use a desktop or laptop browser. Wells Fargo's CSV export is not available in the mobile app.

2
Select your account

From your account summary, click on the specific checking, savings, or credit card account you want to export.

3
Find "Download Account Activity"

On the account activity page, look for a "Download Account Activity" link — typically located above or below the transaction list, often near pagination or date-range controls. It may appear as a small link rather than a prominent button.

4
Set your date range

A dialog opens with date range options. For a monthly review, set the start date to the first of last month and the end date to the last day of last month. Wells Fargo allows you to export up to 24 months of history.

5
Choose CSV format

Under file format, select "Comma Separated Values (.CSV)." Microsoft Money format is also Excel-compatible and works with MindsBudget.

6
Click Download

A file saves to your downloads folder with a name like WellsFargoChecking_01-01-2026_05-01-2026.csv.

7
Upload to MindsBudget

Upload the file to MindsBudget. Your full spending breakdown, recurring charge report, and financial health score appear in under 60 seconds.

Troubleshooting

I can't find the "Download Account Activity" link — where is it?

Make sure you've clicked into a specific account first (not just the account overview). Once you're on the individual account activity page, look above the list of transactions. The link is sometimes small — look for "Download" or "Download Account Activity" text near the date range filter.

Wells Fargo is asking me to verify my identity before I can download — is that expected?

Yes, Wells Fargo may prompt for step-up verification before allowing a file download. Complete the two-step verification and retry the download.

My Wells Fargo CSV file looks garbled when I open it in Excel — what's wrong?

This is a display issue in Excel on some systems, not a problem with the file itself. MindsBudget reads the raw CSV directly, so upload the file as-is without opening or editing it first.

What you get after uploading

📊

🔒
Private by design

The original file is not stored. No bank credentials. No ongoing account connection.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download Wells Fargo transactions as a CSV?

Sign in at wellsfargo.com, click on the account you want, find the "Download Account Activity" link on the account activity page, select your date range and CSV format, then download.

Does Wells Fargo let you export credit card transactions to CSV?

Yes. Wells Fargo's CSV export works for checking, savings, and credit card accounts. The process is the same for all account types.

How far back can I download Wells Fargo transaction history?

Wells Fargo typically allows downloads going back up to 24 months via the account activity download feature.

What date range should I export for a monthly review?

For a standard monthly review, export the last 30 days — or the first to last day of the most recent full calendar month. MindsBudget calculates your financial health score and spending breakdown from whatever date range is in the file.

Does MindsBudget accept Excel files as well as CSV?

Yes. MindsBudget accepts both CSV (.csv) and Excel (.xlsx, .xls) files. Either format exported from your bank works.

Is it safe to upload a bank statement file?

Your exported bank statement contains transaction history — dates, amounts, and merchant names — but no account numbers or login credentials. MindsBudget processes the file immediately and does not store the original file. Only the structured transaction data is retained, and you can delete it at any time.

Does MindsBudget connect to my bank?

No. MindsBudget does not connect to your bank and does not ask for your bank credentials. You export the file yourself and upload it — no ongoing connection, no third-party access to your account.

What columns does MindsBudget need in the CSV?

MindsBudget automatically detects the column format used by major banks. Standard exports from Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Capital One, and Discover all work without any manual editing.
