How to Export Discover Transactions as a CSV File
Discover allows you to download transaction history from credit card and bank accounts (Discover Bank checking and savings) as a CSV or Excel file. The export is available from the desktop website and takes about 2 minutes.
How to export your Discover statement
Open discover.com in a desktop or laptop browser and log in to your account.
Click on your credit card or Discover Bank account to open the transaction or activity view.
Look for a "Download" link or button near the transaction list — Discover typically labels it "Download Activity" or shows a download icon near the top of the transaction section. For credit cards, this is usually visible on the "Activity" tab of the card account.
Choose a date range from the options provided. For a monthly review, select the last 30 days or a specific statement period. Discover allows custom date ranges.
Select "Spreadsheet (.CSV)" or the CSV option from the format dropdown. Discover may also offer Excel and Quicken/OFX formats — CSV or Excel both work with MindsBudget.
The file downloads to your downloads folder. The filename typically includes your account type and date range.
Upload the CSV file to MindsBudget. Your spending breakdown, recurring charge analysis, and financial health score appear in under 60 seconds.

Troubleshooting
I can't find the "Download Activity" link on Discover's website — where is it?
For Discover credit cards, the download option is usually on the "Activity" tab of the account page — look for a small download icon or "Download" text link near the top of the transaction list, often to the right side. If you're on the "Statements" tab, navigate back to "Activity" first.
Discover is only showing me PDF statements — can I use those?
No. MindsBudget requires a CSV or Excel file. PDF statements cannot be uploaded. Look in the account activity section (not the statements section) for the CSV download option.
Does Discover's CSV export work for both Discover Card and Discover Bank accounts?
Yes. Discover offers transaction downloads for both Discover credit card accounts and Discover Bank accounts (checking, savings, and money market). The process is the same for both.
What you get after uploading
Every transaction is categorized — Food, Housing, Transportation, Subscriptions, and more.
Every charge that repeats is identified and classified — Fixed Bills, Debt Payments, Subscriptions, and unknowns.
A score from 0–100 based on your spending rate, discipline, stability, and cash runway.
The original file is not stored. No bank credentials. No ongoing account connection.
Frequently asked questions
How do I download Discover transactions as a CSV?
Sign in at discover.com, click on your account, navigate to the Activity tab, find the "Download Activity" link, select your date range and CSV format, then download.
Does Discover support CSV exports for both credit cards and bank accounts?
Yes. Discover's CSV download works for Discover credit card accounts and Discover Bank checking and savings accounts.
Can I download Discover transactions from the Discover mobile app?
No. The CSV export option is only available on the Discover desktop website. The mobile app does not include a transaction download feature.
What date range should I export for a monthly review?
For a standard monthly review, export the last 30 days — or the first to last day of the most recent full calendar month. MindsBudget calculates your financial health score and spending breakdown from whatever date range is in the file.
Does MindsBudget accept Excel files as well as CSV?
Yes. MindsBudget accepts both CSV (.csv) and Excel (.xlsx, .xls) files. Either format exported from your bank works.
Is it safe to upload a bank statement file?
Your exported bank statement contains transaction history — dates, amounts, and merchant names — but no account numbers or login credentials. MindsBudget processes the file immediately and does not store the original file. Only the structured transaction data is retained, and you can delete it at any time.
Does MindsBudget connect to my bank?
No. MindsBudget does not connect to your bank and does not ask for your bank credentials. You export the file yourself and upload it — no ongoing connection, no third-party access to your account.
What columns does MindsBudget need in the CSV?
MindsBudget automatically detects the column format used by major banks. Standard exports from Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Capital One, and Discover all work without any manual editing.
